So Good Kombucha UK - Social Purpose
So Good Kombucha UK is a small business with a BIG dream.
We believe that work is GOOD, and that businesses should be a force for GOOD.
We seek to employ, train, and empower refugees and others who are marginalised in society to give them meaningful work and enable them to come out of the social benefits system. Our goal is that more than 50% of our employees will have a refugee background and/or are from a marginalised / disadvantaged people group.
We collaborate with, and give a portion of our profits to, local charities who care for the same causes.
Some of our charity partners include:
- Upbeat Communities - founded in 2005, Upbeat Communities is a Derby-based charity supporting those seeking sanctuary from war, persecution, and conflict. The aim is to help connect and integrate refugees into community and see strangers become neighbours.
- Derby City MIssion - founded in 1989 initially as a debt advice service, and the first food bank nationwide, DCM now offer many services for people in crisis (such as Safe Space homeless night shelter), and for people in the community (such as the Street Pastor Programme).
Our hope is that as the business grows we will be able to offer increasingly more time and resources towards the fulfillment of our social mission.
We are also very excited and proud to be using Nemi Teas as our organic tea supplier.
Nemi Teas is a specialist London-based tea company that shares our social purpose and values - providing employment to refugees to give them local work experience and job readiness skills to enter the UK workforce and help them integrate into broader society. All their teabags are plastic-free, packaging is biodegradable, and the teas are Organic, Fairtrade and Rainforest-Alliance certified.
